Wayne County Improvements to I-795 Will Require Lane Reductions

GOLDSBORO – Work will start soon on Interstate 795 in Wayne County to upgrade guardrails, repair or replace storm drainage systems and fix shoulder erosion.

The N.C. Department of Transportation this month awarded a $5 million contract to Fred Smith Co. of Raleigh to perform the upgrades along a 14-mile stretch of I-795 between the Wayne-Wilson county line and West Ash Street in Goldsboro.

The contractor may begin after Jan. 27, and has until November 2020 to complete the project. The work will largely be done during the daytime, requiring a lane restriction in sections of the road.

To check when sections of this route will be reduced to one lane, people may visit DriveNC.gov and search “I-795” for a list of incidents.
