ASHEVILLE — A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will start replacing an old bridge on Village Road behind the Fairview Fire Department on Monday with a temporary road closure.
The contractor, R.E. Burns & Sons Co., Inc. of Statesville, will replace the existing bridge over Ashworth Creek with a 30-foot wide bridge to better accommodate larger vehicles as well as bicycles.
Construction is expected to conclude by May 11. Drivers will utilize a 1/2-mile detour from Village Road to US-74A in both directions.
This is one of four bridges being replaced as part of a $3 million contract. Transportation officials remind motorists to obey detour signs, watch for construction information, stay alert and obey posted speed limits, especially through work zones.
