Concord Traffic Shift Scheduled for U.S. 29 South This Weekend

CONCORD – Contract crews for the N.C. Department of Transportation will shift traffic this weekend on U.S. 29 South in Concord where two bridges over the Rocky River are being replaced. The traffic shift is needed to direct drivers from the temporary southbound bridge to the new bridge.

Crews will close the right lane on U.S. 29 South at 9 a.m. Friday to do work in advance of the full southbound closure. All southbound lanes will close at 8 p.m. Friday, opening by 6 a.m. Monday, March 9.

A signed detour will be in place directing drivers from Pitts School Road to Weddington Road and Bruton Smith Boulevard, returning to U.S. 29.  Northbound traffic will not be affected.

Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, follow posted detours, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
