RALEIGH — As part of the Interstate 440 Improvements project, N.C. Department of Transportation contractors are scheduled to close the ramp from I-440 East to eastbound Western Boulevard (Exit 2A) this weekend.
The ramp will close from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday to allow crews to complete work on the new alignment for the ramp and the addition of a temporary exit to be used during the upcoming closure of the loop from I-440 East to westbound Western Boulevard.
A detour will lead drivers to exit at Hillsborough Street (Exit 3), turn right, and then take the I-440 West back to Western Boulevard (Exit 2A).
The loop from I-440 East to westbound Western Boulevard (Exit 2B) will also close tonight and possibly tomorrow night from midnight until 2 a.m. The detour will also lead drivers to Hillsborough Street to take I-440 West back to Western Boulevard (Exit 2B).
This closure is weather dependent and subject to change.
Motorists should allow extra time to navigate the detour and slow down and pay attention throughout the work zone.
