Ramp Closure, Traffic Shift Upcoming on I-85 in Rowan County

SALISBURY – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews plan to close a ramp and shift traffic for about a week on Interstate 85 in Rowan County.

In order to safely work on concrete slab repairs, crews plan to close the ramp from Julian Road onto I-85 South from 9 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday, May 18. Drivers who need to access I-85 South will be detoured one exit north on I-85 to Jake Alexander Boulevard to turn around.

For the duration of the ramp closure, the left two lanes of I-85 South will close near the Innes Street interchange and then traffic will shift from the outside two lanes to the inside shoulder near the Julian Road exit, keeping two lanes open.

All the work is dependent on the weather, which could impact the schedule.

Drivers should slow down and be cautious when approaching this section of I-85, be mindful of the crews throughout the work zone and allow extra time for the detour.
