Traffic Shift Upcoming on Beltline Widening Project

RALEIGH — N.C. Department of Transportation contractors are scheduled to shift traffic on the Raleigh Beltline this weekend as part of the Interstate 440 Improvements project.

I-440 East will be closed at Wade Avenue from Sunday at 9:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday. This closure is needed for crews to place a barrier wall and pavement markings to allow traffic to shift towards the median between Wade Avenue (Exit 4) and Lake Boone Trail (Exit 5). This pattern is scheduled to be in place for approximately two years.

A detour will direct drivers to take Exit 4 and follow Wade Avenue to Blue Ridge Road to Lake Boone Trail to access I-440 East.

Because of the closure on I-440, the loop from eastbound Wade Avenue to I-440 East will also be closed at the same time. Drivers will be detoured to Ridge Road and Lake Boone Trail to access I-440 East.

Additionally, the ramp from westbound Wade Avenue to I-440 East will be closed Sunday night. Drivers will follow a detour to Blue Ridge Road and Lake Boone Trail to access I-440 East.

This work is weather dependent, and the rain date is planned for the following night.

Drivers should pay attention and allow for extra time to navigate through the work zone.
