I-85 Ramp Closure, Traffic Shift Upcoming in Rowan County

SALISBURY – State transportation contractors plan to close an Interstate 85 exit ramp and reduce lanes for several weeks as part of an ongoing project to improve the highway.

The ramp from I-85 North at Julian Road (Exit 74) is scheduled to close at 9 p.m. Sunday so crews can work on concrete slab repairs. The closure is expected to last until July 21, weather permitting.

While the ramp is closed, traffic will be detoured to N.C. 601/Jake Alexander Boulevard (Exit 75) to head back on I-85 South to access Julian Road.

Along with the ramp closure, the right two lanes of the interstate will close in this area from 9 p.m. Sunday until the evening of June 21 to ensure the safety of the work crews. Traffic will be maintained in a two-lane pattern using the inside shoulder.

Drivers should be cautious, watch out for the crews working in this area and allow extra time for the detour while the ramp is closed.
