Cumberland County Road Closed for Pipe Repairs

FAYETTEVILLE – Maintenance crews with the N.C. Department of Transportation plan to replace a damaged culvert this month where they have closed Baywood Road for safety east of Fayetteville.

The road is closed in both directions north of Murphy Road. Signs are sending people onto Murphy and Draughon roads around the closure.

The 52-inch steel pipe failed after recent storms. The department plans to dig out the pipe and replace it with two 48-inch pipes made of reinforced concrete. The new pipes will accommodate larger amounts of water that can safely flow underneath the road.

If the weather cooperates, the crews plan to complete the project and reopen the road by the end of July.

Drivers should anticipate a longer commute until construction is complete and be cautious near the work zone.
