Weekend Closure Needed for Sampson County Bridge Demolition

CLINTON – The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to close a section of a Sampson County road while contract crews demolish a bridge.

Crews expect to close Sunset Avenue underneath U.S. 421/701 between 8 p.m. July 10 and 6 a.m. July 13. The closure is needed to demolish the northbound bridge on U.S. 421/701. This work is the beginning of construction on the replacement of the bridge, which is expected to take about nine months.

Drivers will be able to access the ramps of the interchange on both sides of the bridges. The NCDOT will have signs directing traffic around the closure, but drivers may also find up-to-date traffic information on DriveNC.gov

Drivers should anticipate a longer commute while the closure is in place and are urged to slow down and use caution in the area.
