CONCORD – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will shift traffic on Derita Road between Christenbury Road and Thunder Road beginning Wednesday, July 15, weather permitting. The temporary shift is part of a $19.4 million project to widen Derita Road from north of Concord Mills Boulevard to Poplar Tent Road, approximately 2.4 miles.
Before and during the shift, crews will adjust traffic signal heads near Thunder Road and will be striping the road to indicate where the shift is occurring. Afterward, the contractor will start culvert work south of Edinbury Drive and will continue other roadway work.
This traffic pattern will be in place approximately six months.
Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, follow posted detours and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
