Section of Salem Parkway to Close Overnight this Week

WINSTON-SALEM – A portion of Salem Parkway is set to close for several overnight periods this week to allow contract crews to pave a final layer of asphalt.

Supports were recently removed from underneath the Green Street pedestrian bridge, making it possible to move forward applying the top layer to the freeway between the bridge over Brookstown Avenue and the bridge over Crafton Street.

Crews plan to start work on the westbound side, which is scheduled to close from 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday until 6 a.m. the following mornings. Westbound drivers will exit at Cherry Street and follow a signed detour along First Street and Cloverdale Avenue to return to Salem Parkway.

Crews will shift to the eastbound side once paving this stretch of the westbound side is complete. The work and associated closures are weather dependent and subject to change.

Drivers should slow down and be cautious near the work zone and expect the detours will take a little more travel time.
