I-85 Repairs Require Temporary Traffic Pattern in Rowan County

SALISBURY – State transportation contract crews plan to begin concrete slab repairs this weekend along a stretch of Interstate 85 in Rowan County.

The work will require closing two of the four southbound lanes of the interstate between the Julian Road and Webb Road interchanges – first shifting traffic to the outside lanes and then back to the inside lanes closer to the work area. The ramp from Peeler Road onto I-85 South will also have to be closed due to its proximity to the repair locations.

Weather permitting, these closures and shifts are slated to last about two weeks – from 9 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31.

During this time, drivers needing to access I-85 South from Peeler Road should take I-85 North about a mile to the Peach Orchard Road exit to turn around on the interstate.

Drivers should slow down near the work zone, be mindful of crews working near the travel lanes and factor the detour into their commutes.
