RALEIGH — N.C. Department of Transportation crews are planning an overnight closure tonight as part of the Interstate 440 Improvements Project.
From 9:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. Tuesday, I-440 East will close at Jones Franklin Road (Exit 1C) to allow crews to pour the concrete deck on the eastern half of the new Melbourne Road bridge over the Beltline.
Drivers will take Exit 1C, turn left onto Jones Franklin Road, right onto Western Boulevard and then take the loop back onto I-440 East.
Additionally, crews will close one lane at a time on I-440 West beginning with the left and then alternating to the right lane.
The ramp from Melbourne Road to I-440 East will remain open.
The work is weather dependent and rain dates are planned for the following night.
Motorists need to pay attention in the work zone and anticipate needing a little extra time for the detour.
