LEXINGTON – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews plan to close lanes on Interstate 85 overnight twice next week as part of an airport safety project in Davidson County.
Two of three lanes of I-85 South are scheduled close at the Hargrave Road interchange (Exit 88) from 8 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday. From midnight to 4 that morning, I-85 North traffic will be required to follow an up-and-over detour at the Hargrave Road interchange.
The same scenario is scheduled for the northbound side of I-85 near the Hargrave Road interchange from Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning.
The closures are needed to install overhead structures for special lighting that will expand the capabilities of Runway 6 at the Davidson County Airport. The project is a joint effort with NCDOT's Division of Aviation.
Drivers should slow down and anticipate the lane reductions near the Hargrave Road interchange and be mindful of crews working close to the travel lanes during these time periods.
