Shift, Closure Planned for I-85 Work in Rowan County

SPENCER – State transportation contractors plan to shift traffic and close a ramp onto Interstate 85 in Rowan County for about a week.

Crews plan to close the two inside lanes of northbound I-85 between mile markers 79 and 82 at 9 p.m. Sunday and the ramp from Long Ferry Road onto I-85 North a few hours later – about midnight. These closures are expected to be in place until 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5.

Traffic on I-85 North will shift right, utilizing the outside shoulder to maintain two travel lanes throughout this stretch while the left lanes are closed. Drivers on Long Ferry Road will be detoured to take I-85 South about 2 miles to Exit 79 to access I-85 North.

The closures will enable crews to safely work on concrete slab repairs in this area. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.

Drivers should slow down and be cautious as work is taking place near the travel lanes.
