Rockingham County Bridge Repair Requires U.S. 220 Closure

MAYODAN – Drivers on U.S. 220 North will be detoured for several days while a bridge is repaired in Rockingham County.

N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews plan to replace a beam on the River Road bridge, which was struck by an overheight vehicle earlier this year.

For safety purposes, the northbound side of the highway is set to close from 6:30 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Drivers will be detoured to take the U.S. 311 South/U.S. 220 Business North/N.C. 704 exit, head into Madison and turn right on Wilson Street to reconnect with U.S. 220 Business North and U.S. 220 North.

Drivers should watch for signage instructing them to exit the highway near Madison and allow extra time for the detour through the towns.
