RALEIGH — The new Melbourne Road bridge over the Raleigh Beltline opened at 5 a.m. today, restoring access that had been cut off since Sept. 30, 2019.
The new bridge is longer than the former to accommodate the additional travel lane in each direction being added by N.C. Department of Transportation contractors on the Beltline beneath it, as part of the Interstate 440 Improvements project.
The bridge also features wider travel lanes for Melbourne Road, sidewalks, and a new exit ramp from I-440 West.
