MACCLESFIELD – A 63-year-old bridge with vehicle weight restrictions in Edgecombe County will be replaced with a modern structure.
The bridge on Sharp Point Road over Otter Creek, east of the town of Macclesfield, will close early next year for about nine months. Sanford Contractors Inc. of Lemon Springs will replace it, after the N.C. Department of Transportation awarded at $967,500 contract this month.
The contractor may proceed after Jan. 25 and must complete the project and reopen the road by October.
When the project begins, the detour will include Felton Farm Road, Sawyer Road and U.S. 258. Drivers should plan ahead and use caution near the closure.
