SHELBY – Today, the N.C. Department of Transportation closed a section of a Cleveland County road to begin a weeklong construction project.
New Prospect Church Road will be closed at Long Creek while crews construct a new retaining wall where the shoulder was washed out due to last year’s inclement weather. Work is expected to be completed by Jan. 27.
Traffic will be detoured to N.C. 180, Arlee Road and Sanders Road on either side of the closure.
Motorists should use caution and expect some delays while using detours.
