Makeover Approved for U.S. 29 in Caswell County

CASWELL COUNTY – Crews will soon begin an overhaul of U.S. 29 in Caswell County, thanks to a contract recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

All 6 miles of the highway between Rockingham County and the Virginia line will be milled and resurfaced and shoulders will be reconstructed. The new pavement will include a surface layer of open-graded friction course asphalt, which helps reduce hydroplaning and makes lanes more visible to drivers during rain events. The stretch will also get new lane markings and markers.

The ramps at the Law Road, N.C. 700 and U.S. 58 interchanges will also be resurfaced as part of this project.

The work can begin as early as April 1 and is expected to be substantially complete by July 2022.

The Thompson Arthur division of APAC Atlantic Inc. entered the lowest of five bids for the contract – $3.4 million. State law requires contracts be awarded to the lowest bidder among qualified contractors.
