RALEIGH — N.C. Department of Transportation crews are planning overnight closures this week as a part of the Interstate 440 Improvements Project.
From midnight on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night until 5 the following mornings, access to I-440 East will be closed at the interchange with U.S. 1 and I-40 near Crossroads Plaza in southwest Wake County as crews set the girders for the new Jones Franklin Road bridge over the highway.
Detours will direct drivers to take I-40 West and eastbound Wade Avenue to access the Beltline.
Girders were erected over the westbound lanes of I-440 last month. The new bridge is being constructed just west of the existing structure.
The work is weather dependent and rain dates are planned for the following night.
Motorists need to pay attention near the work zones and anticipate needing extra time for the detour.
