Lane Closures Planned for I-440 Project This Week

RALEIGH — N.C. Department of Transportation crews are planning overnight closures this week as a part of the Interstate 440 Improvements Project.

From 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights until 5 a.m. the next day, I-440 West/U.S. 1 South traffic will be diverted from the mainline onto the collector-distributor lanes between the Jones Franklin Road and Southeast Cary Parkway interchanges.

The closures are necessary for crews complete paving and lane marking operations to allow for traffic to shift toward the median in that area. The traffic shift will open the outside shoulder area to construct the new collector-distributor lanes.

Motorists need to pay attention near the work zone and anticipate needing extra time to get through the area.
