Bridge Replacement Project to Begin in Stokes County

KING – A project to replace a bridge over U.S. 52 in Stokes County is set to begin next week.

The bridge that carries Meadowbrook Drive over the highway in King is scheduled to close at 8 a.m. Monday. The structure has become outdated and will be replaced with a new bridge built to modern design and safety standards.

During the closure, traffic will be detoured along Newsome Road and South Main Street to access Meadowbrook Drive on either side of the closure.

Until the project is complete – tentatively through August 2022 – there will also be various lane closures on U.S. 52 between mile markers 124 and 125 so crews can safely work on the bridge replacement.

Drivers should be mindful of crews working in this area and allow extra time for the detour.
