Roanoke River Bridge in Halifax County Getting Overhaul

WELDON – The U.S. 158/301 bridge over the Roanoke River in Halifax County is about to get a major overhaul.

Contract crews for the N.C. Department of Transportation will repair and smooth out the concrete driving deck, as well as replace bridge joints and seals; clean and paint the steel beams and bearings; and use an epoxy coating to repair concrete substructures.

The NCDOT last fall awarded the $1.18 million contract to Landford Brothers Co. Inc. of Roanoke, Va.

The contractor will maintain one lane of traffic on the two-lane bridge during construction. A portable traffic signal will be set up on either end of the bridge to allow each direction of travelers to take turns crossing it.

Landford Brothers is scheduled to begin the project and institute the lane closures at noon Monday.
The project is under contract to be completed by October 2021.
