Final Paving of I-40 Between Aviation Parkway, Airport Boulevard Set to Begin

MORRISVILLE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews are about to restart final paving work on the project to improve the Interstate 40 interchange at Aviation Parkway. Before beginning the paving tomorrow night, however, crews will need to remove the portable concrete barriers along the outside lanes of I-40 tonight.

At 7 p.m., crews will close the loop from southbound Aviation Parkway onto I-40 East to remove the barrier. At about 8 p.m., crews will then close the outside lane in each direction of the interstate and the exit loop from I-40 West to southbound Aviation Parkway (Exit 285A) to remove the barriers. The ramps and all travel lanes should reopen by 6 a.m. tomorrow.

Weather permitting, crews will begin several nights of paving on I-40 Sunday night. Work is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. each night with alternating lane closures in place as crews work from the median toward the outside shoulder. All lanes and ramps should reopen by 6 a.m.

Motorists need to slow down and pay extra attention as they travel through the work zone.
