Rockingham County Bridge Set for Replacement

REIDSVILLE – A project to replace a bridge over U.S. 29 in Rockingham County is set to get underway.

Smith-Rowe LLC was recently awarded a $3.67 million contract to replace the bridge that carries Mizpah Church Road over the highway south of Reidsville.

The existing bridge reached the end of its useful life span and will be replaced with a structure built to modern standards. The project is expected to be substantially complete by spring 2023.

The project includes grading and drainage work and paving. Crews will construct a new bridge adjacent to the existing bridge, making the impact to traffic minimal.

There will be a temporary closure of Mizpah Church Road with detour as crews tie in the existing road to the new bridge near the end of the project, and temporary closures on U.S. 29 once traffic is shifted and the old bridge can be demolished.
