ASHEVILLE – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation is preparing to rehabilitate three significant bridges in Buncombe County.
NHM Constructors LLC, based in Asheville, may begin repairs to the bridge on Patton Cove Road over Interstate 40, the bridge on Dunsmore Avenue over I-40 and the bridge on Haywood Road over Riverside Drive and the French Broad River as soon as Monday, May 3.
All three bridges will receive similar treatments including joint and foundation rehabilitation, fresh paint, new traffic markings and symbols, and a new concrete surface to improve the ride quality. These repairs will extend the service life of each bridge.
The $4.59 million contract to repair and preserve these three bridges calls for completion by Sept. 15, 2022.
The bridge on Patton Cove Road was built in 1970, the bridge Haywood Road was built in 1974, and the bridge on Dunsmore Avenue was built in 1979.
Transportation officials remind drivers to remain patient and alert when driving in work zones and to respect the safety of employees, fellow drivers and cyclists in the area.
