RALEIGH - The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is continuing construction of the southern portion of the Complete 540 project, which will extend the Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) from N.C. 55 Bypass to Interstate 40.
On or about August 16, Johnson Pond Road will temporarily close to through traffic between Ten Ten Road and Optimist Farm Road. Johnson Pond Road will temporarily close to all traffic near the N.C. 540 construction site south of Ten Ten Road and south of Heavy Weight Drive. Access will be maintained for residents along Heavy Weight Drive. Road closure and detour signs will be installed.
This section of Johnson Pond Road, between Ten Ten Road and Optimist Farm Road, is scheduled to remain closed for approximately five months while contractors perform material hauling operations and construct the bridge that will carry Johnson Pond Road over N.C. 540.
Detour routes will be as follows:
Johnson Pond Road Northbound
- Optimist Farm Road to Lake Wheeler Road to Ten Ten Road
Johnson Pond Road Southbound
- Ten Ten Road to Lake Wheeler Road to Optimist Farm Road
Drivers should use caution and slow down while traveling through the work zones and along the detour route.
