Mebane Bypass Project Brings Work to U.S. 70

MEBANE – Contract crews plan to close a section of U.S. 70 over the weekend to work on widening the highway as part of the ongoing N.C. 119 Bypass project in Mebane.

The closure will take place in the area where a bridge will carry the new bypass over U.S. 70. It is set to begin at 7 p.m. Friday and last until 6 a.m. Monday.

Closing the highway will enable crews to safely remove pavement and repave a wider surface, working across several elevation changes.

Until the road reopens, drivers will be detoured along Moore Road, West Holt Street and Lake Latham Road to access points on either side of the work zone.

Drivers should slow when approaching this point on U.S. 70 on the west side of Mebane, follow the posted detour signs and be mindful of crews working in this area.
