New Traffic Pattern Coming to Downtown Salisbury

SALISBURY – Starting next week, a N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will begin nightly construction to implement a new traffic pattern and other improvements in downtown Salisbury.

From Sept. 20 – Oct. 15 between 8 p.m. – 6 a.m., one lane of Main Street (U.S. 29) will be closed in both directions between Chestnut Street and Lafayette Street. The closure will allow crews to mill, pave and restripe the road, converting the current four-lanes into a three-lane roadway. Bike lane installation and parking adjustments will be included in this work.

Following the completion of the improvements on Main Street, Innes Street will be repaved between Long and Fulton streets.

Message boards and traffic cones will be placed on the route to alert traffic of the new pattern during this process. Signs will also be placed to notify drivers that cars parked in the work zone between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. are subject to be towed.

Motorists should use caution and expect some delays due to the lane closures.
