Closures Planned Through Next Week for I-40 in Forsyth County

WINSTON-SALEM – Starting this weekend, an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will have several nightly closures for the ongoing improvement project along Interstate 40 in Forsyth County into the following week, weather permitting.

On Friday at 9 p.m., the entrance ramp from Peters Creek Parkway to I-40 West and the right lane of I-40 West between mile markers 192 and 191 will be closed. The closure is necessary for crews to make improvements to the ramp's shoulders, slopes and drainage structures. The closure will remain until 5 a.m. Monday.

On Sunday, the ramp from I-40 East to Peters Creek Parkway (Exit 192) will also be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday for the removal of a portable concrete barrier.

A signed detour will be in place for both ramp closures that directs traffic to continue on I-40 East to U.S. 52 North (Exit 193 B), cross over the bridge and merge onto I-40 West (Exit 107 B) to return to Peters Creek Parkway.

The following lane closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

  • Oct. 24-26, two of three lanes will be closed on I-40 East from east of Hanes Mall Boulevard to east of Peters Creek Parkway.
  • Oct. 27-28, two of three lanes will be closed on I-40 East from the I-40/U.S. 421 split to Peters Creek Parkway.
  • Oct. 27-28, two of three lanes will be closed on I-40 West from west of Peters Creek Parkway to west of Hanes Mall Boulevard.

Oct. 25-26, two of three lanes will also be closed on the southbound Union Cross Road bridge over I-40 from 10 p.m.-6 a.m.

Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zones and plan accordingly for delays.
