HENDERSONVILLE – A section of Interstate 26 in Henderson County will close each of the next three nights, and traffic will be diverted to a route with longer green lights.
A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close the I-26 West stretch from U.S. 25 Business (Exit 44) to Airport Road (Exit 40) starting no earlier than 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.
Crews will be paving and moving safety barriers as part of a traffic shift that moves travel lanes a few feet to the outside.
Traffic will be diverted to U.S. 25 Business (Hendersonville Road) and drivers can continue north to Airport Road or Long Shoals Road to rejoin I-26, or continue north to join I-40.
All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. the following morning. The Integrated Corridor Management system will provide longer times for green traffic signals on U.S. 25 Business to accommodate interstate traffic.
These plans are weather dependent and subject to change. Transportation officials remind drivers to remain alert, slow down and obey all posted traffic signs.
