Three I-26 Overnight Closures This Week

HENDERSONVILLE – Three sections of Interstate 26 will be closed three different nights this week.

Traffic will detoured off the interstate and onto local routes with longer green lights. No sections will close before 8 p.m., and all sections of I-26 will reopen by 6 a.m. the following day. This construction is associated with the widening of I-26 from U.S. 64 in Henderson County to Brevard Road in Buncombe County.

Here are the three closures:

Tonight: I-26 West will close from U.S. 25 Business (Exit 44) in Fletcher to Long Shoals Road (Exit 37) in Asheville. A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will be adding reflectors to safety barrier and installing pavement markers and rehabilitating joints on a bridge in Buncombe County. Construction in Henderson County includes anchoring safety barrier.

Traffic will be diverted to U.S. 25 North (Hendersonville Road) then N.C. 146 (Long Shoals Road) to rejoin I-26.

Wednesday night: I-26 East will close from Brevard Road (Exit 33) to U.S. 25 Business (Exit 44). Crews will be shifting traffic and connecting lanes between two projects just south of Brevard Road.

All drivers on I-40 will be directed to U.S. 25 South (Hendersonville Road) at Exit 50. Drivers on I-240/I-26 East will be detoured at Brevard Road (Exit 33) then to I-40 East to Exit 50.

Friday night: I-26 East will close from Airport Road (Exit 40) to U.S. 25 Business (Exit 44). Crews will finalize an overnight traffic shift. On Saturday morning, drivers in this section will be driving on old westbound lanes.

Overnight, motorists will be detoured to N.C. 280 (Airport Road) then to U.S. 25 South (Hendersonville Road) to rejoin I-26 at Exit 44.

Transportation officials remind drivers to plan ahead, remain alert and obey posted signs in the construction zone.
