New Bridge Coming to N.C. 194 in Ashe County

WARRENSVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation recently awarded an $8.3 million contract to replace a 67-year-old bridge on N.C. 194 over South Fork New River.

The new bridge will be constructed in stages allowing traffic to remain on N.C. 194 instead of taking a lengthy detour.

The contractor, Vannoy & Sons, may begin construction as early as Jan. 3. The contract calls for completion in late 2024.

Crews will build the new bridge just to the south of the existing bridge. Traffic will be in a one-lane, two-way pattern controlled by traffic signals. Then vehicles will be moved to the new bridge in order to remove the old bridge.

The project also includes realigning the intersection of Campbell Road and N.C. 194 on the south side of the bridge.
