MORGANTON – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will shift traffic on I-40 East near Exit 112 starting at 8 p.m. Friday with work continuing until 6 a.m. Monday.
Eastbound traffic will be moving to a new permanent bridge over Mineral Springs Mountain Road. Crews from Dane Construction will then begin the next phase, removing the temporary bridge, as part of a project to replace both I-40 bridges.
This operation includes temporary closures of the Mineral Springs Mountain Road exit at times this weekend. Digital message signs will alert traffic to the closure prior to Exit 112.
This $12.3 million project began in 2018 and is on schedule to be completed later this summer.
Transportation officials advise motorists to drive with caution when approaching work zones, obey all posted speed limits and allow extra time to safely reach their destinations.
