Nightly Closures Continue for Wade Avenue at I-440 Interchange This Week

RALEIGH — N.C. Department of Transportation crews will continue a series of closures on Wade Avenue this week as a part of the Interstate 440 Improvements Project.

Beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, one lane of eastbound Wade Avenue before the I-440 interchange will close to allow crews to stage equipment for demolition of the old I-440 East bridge over Wade Avenue.

From midnight, and until 5 a.m., all lanes of eastbound Wade Avenue will close at the interchange while the contractor works to safely remove the structure over the eastbound lanes. Traffic shifted onto the new bridge in November.

Eastbound drivers will be detoured onto I-440 West and Hillsborough Street to turn around and access eastbound Wade Avenue and I-440 East.

Contractors plan to switch these closures to the westbound side Tuesday night and through next week. The closure times will be the same as above.

Westbound drivers will be detoured onto I-440 East and Lake Boone Trail to turn around and access westbound Wade Avenue and I-440 West.

Motorists need to pay attention near the work zone and anticipate needing extra time for the detours.
