RALEIGH – Drivers headed west on Interstate 40 south of Raleigh need to be aware of upcoming traffic shifts scheduled for this weekend at the interchange with I-440.
On Saturday evening, crews will install lane closures near the interchange as they make paving and lane striping adjustments in order to move traffic onto the new, wider section of I-40 West.
This work is expected to be completed by Sunday morning and will allow for the demolition of the current bridge that is a part of existing I-40 West where it crosses the ramp from I-40 East to I-440 West.
Additionally, Exit 301 - from I-40 West to I-440 West/I-87 North/U.S. 64 East - will be shifted into a new pattern that will have drivers exit earlier than the current pattern.
This work is part of the widening project from Southeast Raleigh to Clayton.
