KING – Starting this weekend, an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor plans to close part of a highway in Stokes County for about a week for a bridge construction project.
Weather permitting, from May 1-6, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning all lanes of U.S. 52 will be closed in both directions between mile markers 122 and 129 for a bridge construction project. This work will consist of erecting steel girders over U.S. 52 for a new bridge on Meadowbrook Drive.
During the closures, northbound traffic is advised to use Moore-RJR Drive (Exit 122), Moore Road, Old U.S. 52 and Perch Road to return to U.S. 52. Southbound traffic is advised to use Perch Road (Exit 129), Old U.S. 52, Chestnut Grove Road, Goff Road, Old U.S. 52 and Moore Road to return to U.S. 52. Truck traffic is advised to continue on Old U.S. 52 through Pilot Mountain to U.S. 52.
Motorists should be mindful of crews working in this area and allow extra time in their commute for the detour.
