WILMINGTON – A section of a Wilmington downtown street will close for seven days while crews continue improvements to an intersection.
A lane of U.S. 17 Business (South 3rd Street) near Dock Street will close in each direction Thursday at 9 a.m. It will reopen to traffic at the same time a week later. The work is weather permitting.
This closure will allow crews to install a median extension, which will provide safety for the contractor and drivers.
This work is part of a larger project improving the intersection, including paving the roadway and adding a crosswalk. Work on this is expected to last until the fall.
Drivers can use Orange, South 4th, Market and South 2nd streets as a detour. The N.C. Department of Transportation urges drivers to have patience and remain alert during the lane closures.
