U.S. 64 Will Be Repaved in Parts of Twin Counties

ROCKY MOUNT – Fourteen miles of U.S. 64 in Nash and Edgecombe counties will be refreshed, smoothed and restriped, thanks to a new $20.8 million contract.

The highway between Old Carriage Road, near Red Oak, and Kingsboro Road outside Tarboro will be milled and resurfaced, and receive high-visibility, long-lasting thermoplastic pavement markings. The contract also includes some shoulder and drainage improvements.

The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded the project this week to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Rocky Mount. The contractor is scheduled to start in August.

During construction, drivers will encounter daytime lane closures on the four-lane lane. They should slow down, expect brief delays and traveling cautiously through the work zone.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2023.
