RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation will host another round of regional workshops this month for small and disadvantaged firms seeking contracts with the state agency.
The department will host the outreach meetings at its offices around the state July 23.
The NCDOT advertises and awards numerous contracts each year in areas such as construction, maintenance, emergency work, mowing, litter pickup, dead animal removal and traffic control. Disadvantaged businesses include small, minority-owned and women-owned businesses.
“We have many contracting opportunities available for businesses statewide, but some of our smaller businesses are not always aware of what we have to offer,” said state Transportation Secretary Eric Boyette. “These outreach meetings have given hundreds of small businesses a chance to meet with our staff and learn about how they can take advantage of these opportunities.”
All of the outreach meetings on July 23 are from 10 a.m. to noon. The department's highway divisions will pair up for the event, and staff from each division will host the meetings at the following offices:
- Divisions 1 & 2: NCDOT's Division 1 Office, 113 Airport Drive, Suite 100, Edenton
- Divisions 3 & 6: Division 3 Traffic Services Office, 5504 Barbados Blvd., Castle Hayne *(If you are interested in learning about and becoming certified as a small business enterprise, staff will be on hand at this location to educate and notarize your application.)
- Divisions 4 & 5: Wake Tech RDU Campus Auditorium RT1, 10908 Chapel Hill Road, Morrisville
- Divisions 7 & 9: NCDOT’s Division 7 Office, 1584 Yanceyville St. Greensboro
- Divisions 8 & 10: Metrolina Regional Transportation Management Center, 2327 Tipton Drive, Charlotte
- Divisions 11 & 12: Division 11 Office, 801 Statesville Road, North Wilkesboro
- Divisions 13 & 14: AB Tech Ferguson Auditorium, 19 Tech Drive, Asheville Auditorium 19 Tech Drive
Since launching the outreach initiative in June 2021, more than 500 people from hundreds of firms have participated in outreach workshops. The meetings are geared toward disadvantaged business enterprises, or DBEs. But the meetings are open to any business owner seeking to do business with NCDOT. The DBE meetings are hosted by staff from the agency’s Office of Civil Rights and highway divisions.
