Preservation of Wrightsville Beach Bridge to Resume

UPDATE – The contractor doing work on the South Banks Channel Bridge will resume this week after having to postpone the planned closure due to weather.

Crews will close the bridge at 7 p.m. Aug. 24 and reopen at 5 a.m. the following day. The work is weather dependent, so if they are unable to complete it this week, crews will close the bridge during the same time beginning Aug. 31.

Below is the original release with the information what drivers can expect.

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH – Contract crews working to preserve the South Banks Channel Bridge in Wrightsville Beach will resume work next week.

The department will close the bridge to traffic at 7 p.m. Aug. 17. During the closure, crews will install lane shifts. The bridge will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. the following day.

When it reopens, there will be two lanes for traffic going toward the beach and one lane for traffic leaving it. This change will allow a preservation project that began last year to continue.

Drivers should be mindful of the closure and changing traffic pattern, as well as crews working on the bridge.
