Weekend Closures Set for I-440 Project

RALEIGH – Contract crews have adjusted closures planned for the Interstate 440 improvements project this weekend in hopes of dodging rainy weather.

Westbound I-440 is now set to be fully closed from 11 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Saturday to set the final two girders for the Athens Drive bridge and begin disassembling the crane. In order to disassemble the crane and remove it from the median, there will also be a left lane closure on I-440 East during this same time frame, but extending to 6 a.m. Saturday.

During these times, westbound I-440 drivers will be detoured along Jones Franklin Road and Western Boulevard and back to the Beltline.

If weather does interfere with this schedule, the work will be pushed back to Sunday night or first night from then onward when weather cooperates.

Drivers should anticipate the full closure of I-440 West requiring them to exit at Jones Franklin Road and the lane closure on I-440 East, and be mindful of crews working close to the roadway in this area.
