Harnett County Roundabout Contract Is Awarded

LINDEN – A roundabout is coming to U.S. 401 in southern Harnett County.

The roundabout will be constructed where the highway now bisects Josey Williams Road and Horseshoe Bend Road, north of Linden.

The N.C. Department of Transportation last week awarded the $1.5 million contract to Highland Paving Co. of Fayetteville, which can begin construction in January and will have until August 2023 to finish the circular intersection.

The project will require U.S. 401 at this intersection to close for between four to six months, when drivers will be detoured onto West Reeves Bridge Road and McLean Chapel Church Road.

In 2019, the department installed an all-way stop at this intersection as an interim safety measure. Roundabouts improve safety and traffic flow, as this NCDOT webpage explains.
