Contract Awarded to Improve Mecklenburg County Interchange

CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $10.6 million contract this week to Sealand Contractors Corp. of Midland to make improvements to the Interstate 485/N.C. 16 (Brookshire Boulevard) interchange, aiming to decrease delays on N.C. 16 through the intersection.

The project includes building additional northbound lanes on N.C. 16 through the interchange, improving the I-485 outer loop ramps and where N.C. 16 intersects with the inner/outer loop ramps. All work will be performed at night to minimize impacts to drivers.

The contract has a floating availability date, meaning the contractor can start anytime between April 15 and August 1. The intermediate completion date is 455 calendar days from the time the project starts, meaning all work except vegetation establishment must be finished.
