Forsyth County Bridge Repairs Require U.S. 421 Lane Closures

WINSTON-SALEM – N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will implement nightly lane closures on U.S. 421 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. next week for two bridge maintenance projects, weather permitting.

From Feb. 6-9, the right through lane and part of the turn lane on U.S. 421 South at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive bridge will be closed. The left through lane will remain open, and the U.S. 52 to U.S. 421 onramp will merge into the left lane, and the exit from U.S. 421 South to Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive (Exit 232A) will remain open.

From Feb. 9-11, U.S. 421 South will be closed near Shallowford Road (Exit 246). Southbound traffic will be detoured to the exit ramp to cross over Shallowford Road and merge back onto U.S. 421.

The closures are necessary to allow the contractors to perform overhead repairs to steel bridge girders on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and the Shallowford Road bridges.

Motorists are reminded to drive slowly and remain alert while approaching the work zones.
