WINSTON-SALEM – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will close a lane of Future I-74 (Winston-Salem Northern Beltway) for about five months starting next week.
Beginning Feb. 13, Future I-74 West will be reduced to a single lane of traffic to allow contractors to install new sections of a noise wall.
In addition, Exit 227 will be closed on U.S. 421 South. Motorists will follow a signed detour to Exit 224 (South Main Street) to return to U.S. 421 North. Prior to Exit 227 on U.S. 421 North, the ramp will be reduced to a single lane of traffic and remain that way for approximately one mile on the beltway before opening back up to two lanes.
The lane is expected to reopen to traffic by early July.
Motorists should slow down and use extra caution in the area.
