RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in
NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.
Blue Ridge Road Traffic Pattern Shift
Beginning March 4, crews plan to close Hillsborough Street at the intersection with Blue Ridge Road. Plans are to have Blue Ridge Road pass underneath Hillsborough Street, the railroad tracks and Beryl Road.
The upcoming traffic patterns are part of NCDOT’s efforts to improve safety and reduce congestion at the intersection many people use to get to special events like the State Fair and football games at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Jimmy Couch Bridge Dedication
Across the state, NCDOT officials helped dedicate a road in Jonesville for the town’s former mayor.
On Feb. 27, NCDOT officials joined the family and friends of the late Jimmy Couch to dedicate in Couch’s honor Valley Drive from N.C. 67 to U.S. 21.
Couch, who passed away in 2007, was a U.S. Army veteran who was born and raised in Jonesville, a small town in Yadkin County.
He was an active member of the community and served as the town’s mayor and a town commissioner. Couch also served on the Yadkin Valley Bank Advisory Board for more than 36 years.
Women's History Month
March is Women’s History Month and NCDOT is taking the opportunity celebrate and honor women in transportation.
We spoke to several women who all now work at NCDOT’s Wilmington-area office. Each had their own story about how they joined the department and are now empowering young girls to follow their path.
