Ballantyne Bridge Demolition Starts Next Week

CHARLOTTE – Beginning Sunday night, N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will begin removing the old bridge taking Ballantyne Commons Parkway over Interstate 485. The demolition work is part of the I-485 express lanes project underway to add an express lane and deliver additional corridor improvements along Interstate 485 between I-77 and U.S. 74 (Independence Boulevard).

The process will take up to four weeks, with all work being done at night. Crews will install a single lane closure at 9 p.m., then a double lane closure at 11 p.m. Rolling road blocks will be used to slow traffic between midnight – 6 a.m. The closures will be scheduled Sunday – Thursday nights until work is completed.

Vehicle traffic was recently shifted to the new bridge, so drivers using Ballantyne Commons Parkway should not be affected.

Drivers should be mindful of crews working in this location and allow extra time to reach their destination.
