9-Month Closure Coming to Forsyth County Road for Bridge Replacement

WINSTON-SALEM - The N.C. Department of Transportation will close part of a road in Forsyth County next week for a nine-month bridge replacement project that will connect to the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway project.

On April 3, Ziglar Road will be closed to thru traffic while crews replace the old bridge over U.S. 52. This bridge replacement is part of the plan to provide a new interchange at the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway at U.S. 52 (Future I-74) and widen U.S. 52 near N.C. 65 (Bethania-Rural Hall Road).

Westbound traffic for Ziglar Road will be detoured to University Parkway (N.C. 66) toward U.S. 52 North and Exit 118 for N.C. 65 (Bethania-Rural Hall Road) and to return to Ziglar Road. Eastbound traffic will use N.C. 65 (Bethania-Rural Hall Road) heading to U.S. 52 South and Exit 116 for University Parkway (N.C. 66) to access Ziglar Road.

In addition to the closure on Ziglar Road, over the next two weeks the contractor will implement the following lane closures on U.S. 52 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning:

  • April 3-4, the inside lanes will be closed in both directions;
  • April 5, U.S. 52 South will be closed from Westinghouse Road to Hanes Mill Road with a detour;
  • April 10-12 and 10, U.S. 52 North will be closed from University Parkway to N.C. 65 with a detour and the inner southbound lane will be closed; and
  • April 13-14, U.S. 52 North will be closed in the same area with a detour.

Following these closures, a full closure of the highway will be in place from midnight to 5 a.m. These closures are necessary for the demolition of the old bridge.

Detoured traffic for U.S. 52 will follow University Parkway (N.C. 66), N.C. 65 and Tobaccoville Road/Westinghouse Road to return to the highway.

Motorists should use caution and allow extra time for the detours.
